FlexiBlok Flexible Flood Defense System Reviews
As you will know the south of England suffered considerably from storm Angus. We here in the balmy north caught the tail end of the storm hence the warnings of moderate rain and winds during late afternoon and early evening.
However it was pretty clear by teatime we were having more rain than forecast plus the snow melt which resulted in some serious surface water run-off from the steep valley sides. Around 1700 water from the run-off began to cause a problem along the valley, particularly for Hebden Bridge as a huge amount of leaves began to block drains and culverts plus the rapid rise of the river Calder persuaded the EA to activate the flood sirens as the situation rapidly deteriorated.
Volunteers responded in large numbers, it was a little reminiscent of herding Bees! However we soon organised, some good folk clearing the drains whilst I organised a team with a van to deploy the FlexiBloks, once the blocks were in place directing the flow into the nearby canal there was a noticeable immediate drop of around 80% of the runoff on to our main street. Never before has there been such a marked contrast!
A little later before we had a moment to pause, news came of an impromptu deluge affecting property higher up the hillside, once again volunteers responded with around 40 FlexiBloks and very speedily redirected the flow harmlessly away from residential property. The result being only two homes suffered some minor ingress of water. Excellent as the potential was for damage to around some 20-25 homes. Thank heaven for the blocks as in the past we would have had to carry many, many more sand bags over a greater time frame which would not have saved more homes from damage.
Today, Wednesday with a group of volunteers I've been able to return the blocks to our container readily available for the next occasion.
I am delighted to pass on the thanks of the townsfolk and I'll go so far as to say the blocks saved the day, again! Thank you. :-))
Best wishes and thanks
